EASTERN TOWNSHIPS VINEYARD ESTABLISHED IN 1996

In 1996, in the Champlain Valley, a project emerges which will become a major undertaking a few years later, thanks to Denis Paradis. Friends and family break the ground and plant 2,000 grape vines using dibblers. It marks the beginning of a long process, of which each important step in the grape growth cycle gives rise to celebration!

Domaine du Ridge comes into existence in Saint-Armand, Eastern Townships. It would later become a part of the very first Wine Route in Québec.

Today, the vineyard counts over 263, 539 grape vines, which makes it a leader in the number of plants grown in the province. Our estate has made a name for itself throughout the Québec wine-producing network. Our traditional craftsmanship and love for the wine culture are the very basis of our success.

“Our strong desire to share the passion with you has helped our products make their foray into most SAQ and local grocery stores. Quality wines, with a rallying effect, festive, which reflect our hard work.”

OUR PASSION IN THE FIELDS AND IN THE CELLAR

Our commitment to traditional and artisan culture, and our love for our piece of land brought us to minimize our interventions in order to achieve eco-friendly techniques and to focus on the sowing of green fertilizers such as radish, oats and clover. We now practice biodynamic wine growing, which allows stimulating the grape vine’s organic life.

This viticulture method maximizes the expression of the terroir through the grapes, and therefore the wine. Approximately 40% of our fields are in transition toward organic farming. While awaiting the full conversion, we practice reasoned farming, that is with as little chemical intervention as possible. Our close collaboration with a firm of specialized agronomists makes our vineyard one of the lowest chemical products users of the industry across the world. Our rigorous work in the fields is also reflected in the cellar, with the invaluable support of renowned oenologist Jean Berthelot, one of the first graduates of the École d'œnologie de Bordeaux

Given our geographical location, being one of the southernmost vineyards in Québec, we enjoy the microclimate of the Champlain Valley, an exceptional exposure to sunlight, and a rolling terrain with natural slopes, which is needed for efficient irrigating practices. This terroir, this bit of paradise on earth, yet again adds a unique touch to our wines. Most of our grape varieties are hybrids of French grapes such as Seyval blanc, Seyval noir, Vidal, Maréchal Foch, Lucie-Kuhlmann and De Chaunac.

OUR ROOTS, OUR GRAPES

Late in fall, we choose grape varieties from mature vines for planting the next year. That’s right. We use our own cuttings. Prepared with great care, they spend the winter in our greenhouse. To that extent, our photos are fairly evocative!

OUR PRIDE: THE WINE ROUTE

Our love for our region and our passion for wine, shared by the other vineyards on the Brome-Missisquoi Wine Route, allow us to leave a long-lasting legacy in the wine growing and wine producing landscape of Québec

With hopes of becoming involved with all Québec producers for the dissemination of our knowledge, we can catch a glimpse of a future filled with dynamic, major projects.

The family succession is guaranteed, and the team at Domaine du Ridge is strong.
